About this project
The homeowner on Kevin Dr called about water coming into the kitchen, right below the faux chimney. The architectural shingles weren't old; the leak was at the chimney.
Roof-deck condition
We tore off two layers of shingles down to a 1x board deck, with the boards laid tight, and cleaned it to bare wood.
The boards around the faux chimney had rotted, and that's where the water was getting in.
What we did
We protected the yard and house before tear-off, and the Owens Corning Duration shingles were delivered to the site.
We replaced the rotted boards, then built the roof to the Helping Hands Roofing Standard: two rows of ice and water shield at the eaves, ice and water shield around the chimney and the plumbing stack, and two layers of synthetic underlayment overlapped 24 inches. This roof has no valleys or wall transitions.
We put new flashing on the chimney and wrapped the hips, and the finished roof came out beautiful.
Materials and system used: new 1x boards where the deck had rotted, two rows of ice and water shield at the eaves, ice and water shield around the chimney and plumbing stack, two layers of synthetic underlayment, Owens Corning Duration shingles, new chimney flashing
