More than a finish

Siding is part of how the house sheds water

Siding takes the brunt of wind-driven rain, sun, and temperature swings year after year. It's the home's most visible surface, but its real job is part of a system: keeping weather off the wall so the structure underneath stays dry. When siding is widely worn, cracked, or letting water past it, a replacement is a chance to put that whole surface right, not just cover it over.

Where water is actually stopped

What's behind the siding matters as much as the siding

Most of the real water management happens behind the panel you see. Behind ours is either house wrap or fan fold, taped at the seams either way, never both. Then flashing at every window, door and corner where two materials meet. Siding that looks fine from the street can still sit over a compromised layer, and a replacement is the right time to check it instead of hiding it behind new material.

When it's the right call

When replacing the siding makes sense

Replacement is usually the honest answer when the siding is aging or deteriorated across the home, when damage is widespread, or when an exterior is being redone and it makes sense to correct what's behind the siding at the same time. When siding replacement is the right solution, we approach it as a complete wall surface rather than chasing one worn spot at a time.

Sometimes the damage that prompts the call came from a storm. When that's the case, we can document the exterior damage and walk you through the storm-restoration process the same careful way we do on the roof side, without ever acting as your insurance company or adjuster. If the roof and siding took damage together, they're often best handled as one exterior project.

The Helping Hands Roofing Standard in practice

Put the wall right, not just the surface

Siding is part of the same water-management system as the roof. What's behind it, either house wrap or fan fold taped at the seams, plus the flashing at windows and corners, matters as much as the siding itself for keeping moisture out of the wall assembly.

The difference between siding that lasts and siding that only looks new for a while is usually what happened behind it. We'd rather take the time to get the barrier and flashing right than hang a new panel over an old problem. It's the way we'd want it done on our own family's home, which is the whole idea behind Families Helping Families.
