The roof had wind damage. Another roofing company had handled the insurance claim, and it was not approved.
What we found
We properly documented the wind damage and worked with the insurance company, and the insurer approved the full roof replacement.
Why it mattered
Under the old shingles, the house had spaced plank decking: boards laid with gaps between them. Ohio's residential code requires asphalt shingles to be fastened to a solidly sheathed deck (Residential Code of Ohio, section R905.2.1), so the spaced boards were covered with new sheathing.
What we did
Before the claim, we tarped the roof to protect the home.
After tear-off, we covered the spaced plank decking with new sheathing.
The new roof has two rows of ice and water shield at the eaves, RhinoRoof synthetic underlayment, and Owens Corning Duration shingles.
We installed new chimney flashing.
