Can you put gutter guards on existing gutters?
Yes. We install gutter guards on gutters that are already on the house as well as on new ones. The guards fit 5-inch and 6-inch gutters.
What do the gutters need first?
Guards work best on gutters that are in good condition and sized for the roof. A guard cannot correct an undersized gutter, a slope that does not drain, or downspouts that cannot handle the volume. If the gutters have one of those problems, it gets fixed first. Guards on top of it are money in the wrong order.
One thing to know up front. When we put guards on gutters we did not install, our warranty covers the guards. It does not cover leaks in those gutters. On gutters we installed, we fix those too.
How are gutter guards installed on existing gutters?
The back edge of the guard slides under the first row of shingles. The front fastens to the front of the gutter. Nothing is fastened to the roof, so the guards will not void a roof warranty.
Mounted that way, the mesh sits at a slight slope, and the leaves that land on it wash off with the next rain. On most houses the install takes about two hours.
What we install
A high grade stainless steel mesh with a lifetime warranty on material and workmanship. It keeps out leaves, pine needles, maple seeds, oak tassels and shingle grit while rainwater runs through. Gutter guard installation has the details, and Are gutter guards worth it? compares it with the guards we find already on houses.
Do you still have to clean the gutters?
No. If you ever have an issue with a guard we installed, call us and we send someone out. Nobody should be on a ladder at gutter height because of a product we sold them.
When do new gutters make more sense?
When the existing ones are pulling away from the fascia, holding water, or too small for the roof. We install seamless aluminum gutters in 5-inch and 6-inch sizes, and guards can go on with them.
