Roofing in Miamisburg, OH

Miamisburg is an old river town with a downtown that dates to 1818, and the housing reflects it. Work near the historic core is a different job than work out toward the newer subdivisions, and we quote them differently because they need different things.

Local considerations

The older side of Miamisburg is largely plank decking, individual boards laid across the rafters rather than sheets. Where it isn't plank, it's usually 3/8-inch plywood rather than OSB, and that plywood has often carried several roofs already. Ohio's swing from extreme heat to extreme cold works those laminated layers apart over the years until they start separating, and at that point the deck needs re-sheeting before anything new goes on it. Plank decking has its own limit. Owens Corning's installation instructions allow a maximum quarter-inch gap between deck boards, and gaps wider than that have to be repaired or the boards replaced. The reason is straightforward: a shingle course's nail strip can land right over a gap. The nail drives through into the attic and grips nothing, so that course has no fastener actually holding it down. We check the deck before we quote, and if the gaps are past spec we tell you what it takes to correct it.
